The other day, I met a very serious free diver. Wh

The other day, I met a very serious free diver. When I told them I was a mermaid they laughed, saying that free divers are the “real” mermaids. 🧜🏽‍♀️

That they aren't just “posers” looking for a pretty picture.

I laughed back, saying “Yes, I just do this for fun, I’m not competitive, I just love being in the ocean.” 🌊

But then this got me thinking, what makes a “Real” Mermaid? 🤔

Is it having your Wave 2 certification and being able to hold your breath for 3 and 1/2 minutes?

Is it swimming in the ocean everyday and literally having salt water in your veins?

Or is it simply owning an expensive mermaid tail?

I for one, strongly believe that anybody, and I mean ANYBODY can be a Mermaid. ✨💖🧜🏽‍♀️

You don’t need a tail or even know how to swim. All you need is to believe in your heart that you are a Mermaid.

Being a Real Mermaid is whatever our imagination allows us to dream.

That little boy who lives in the desert and wants to be a mermaid? He is a Real Mermaid! That 70 year old lady swimming with a hand sewn tail because she doesn’t have an extra $600? She is a Real Mermaid!

And that 34 year old woman who could hardly walk a year and a half ago because of a spinal injury? Who found swimming the only way to ease her pain? Yes, you guessed it! That woman is me, and I am a Real Mermaid. 💖

We are all REAL Mermaids, no matter our ability or bank account.

Being a Real Mermaid does not rely on our breath hold or swimming skills, but in our ability and courage to dream. 🧜🏽‍♀️

To believe in magic in the Everyday, and bring the joy of Mermaiding to others, inviting them to also dream and play! Because life is too short to be serious all of the time, and allowing yourself to play is hard work! ✨

I hope this inspires you today to believe in yourself and keep dreaming.
